In 2007,a blogger posted about the concept of black google in his blog, ecoIron.he said that since too many users use google, the concept of black google can cause significant savings in energy.According to ECOIRON,”an all white web page uses about 74 watts to display, while an all black page uses only 59 watts. Google, who gets about 200 million queries a day. Let’s assume each query is displayed for about 10 seconds; that means Google is running for about 550,000 hours every day on some desktop. Assuming that users run Google in full screen mode, the shift to a black background will save a total of 15 (74-59) watts.”White is Costly and Black is Cheap when it comes to color and electricity.we can off course save energy by switching off the monitor while not in use..but google black is really an innovative idea to save energy..i have been using google black for quite a while now and i thing its wonderful.it is more soothing to the eyes..also this is applicable only to people using CRT monitors, there is no significant saving of power in LCD

it saves energy and it has been proved that it causes lesser strain for eyes, also i read some reports that neural strain is lesser while using the black colour version of the site…try black google in these sites..
